The Thompson Test for Achilles Tendon Rupture

The Thompson test for Achilles tendon rupture. Two days earlier, the patient felt a pop in the area of the right Achilles tendon. Clinical examination shows clear swelling in the area of the tendon. Active plantar flexion of the ankle is weak on the symptomatic side. When the examiner squeezes the calf with the patient lying prone with their ankle over the end of the examination table (Thompson test), plantar flexion of the affected foot does not occur.
