Chickenpox in an adult. Chickenpox (varicella) in an adult can be a severe infection; this patient had, besides the cutaneous symptoms, also pneumonia caused by the Varicella zoster virus. As is typical of chickenpox, the skin lesions are at different stages of development, some fresh and some already crusted. The picture also shows equipment typical of the place where this type of patients are treated: ICU.
