Interventions for Managing Halitosis

There is insufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of interventions for managing halitosis compared to placebo or control for the dentist-reported organoleptic test (OLT) and patient-reported outcomes. Level of evidence: "D"

Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by sparse data, indirectness and differences in interventions and outcomes.

A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 included 44 trials with 1809 participants. Different types of interventions were compared which were categorised as mechanical debridement, chewing gums, systemic deodorising agents, topical agents, toothpastes, mouthrinse/mouthwash, tablets, and combination methods.
