Urinary retention (longitudinal ultrasonographic picture). Urinary retention in an elderly man. The length of the urinary bladder measures 10.4 cm in a longitudinal ultrasonographic picture and the height (in a transverse picture) measures 6.7 cm and the width 8.7 cm. The estimated recidual urine volume is 0.6 × 10.4 × 6.7 × 8.7 = 364 ml.
