Examination of Peripheral Pulses with Doppler Stethoscope

Examination of peripheral pulses with Doppler stethoscope. The doppler stethoscope is placed behind the medial malleolus and the pulse of the tibialis posterior artery is located by moving the tip of the stethoscope transversely to the direction of the artery. A cuff (not shown in the picture) is placed around the ankle and inflated until the pulse sound disappers. The pressure reading at this point is the ankle pressure.
