Necrobiosis lipoidica on the leg. Necrobiosis lipoidica on the anterior surface of the leg. The patches may be multiple and they often are symmetrically located on both legs. The periphery is brownish and the central part is eventually often yellowish and looks atrophic. There may also be ulceration. Two thirds of patients have diabetes: check blood glucose control. There is no effective treatment. Drugs that improve microcirculation may be helpful, as well as topical corticosteroids in the initial phase. Tacrolimus and PUVA therapy may be of benefit.
