Granuloma Annulare on the Ankle

Granuloma annulare on the ankle. Granuloma annulare may occur as single nodules but also as annular eruptions like in this picture. The progressively spreading active border may erroneously lead the diagnostic thoughts towards a fungal infection. Biopsy is a useful investigation if the diagnostic option is suggested to the pathologist - the histopathological changes are scarce but diagnostic as such. A biopsy may also trigger the healing process. It is often worthwhile to wait for spontaneous healing.
