Enteroviral Vesicles in the Soles

Enteroviral vesicles in the soles. Vesicles caused by an enterovirus infection (hand, foot and mouth disease) in the soles of an 8-year old child. One week earlier the child had fallen ill with fever up to 40°C, and the next day an increasing number of papules and vesicles appeared in the hands and feet. Small vesicles were also found in the oral mucosa and in the gingival sulcuses. At the time of photography the child was without fever, the vesicles were less in number and partially covered with crust. Serum enterovirus nucleic acid assay was positive.
