A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 was carried out to determine whether surgical resection resection of areas of lung affected by bronchiectasias is a superior from of treatment to conservative therapy. No randomised controlled trials were found for the review. Five case series and case-controlled reports were retrieved and the patient population in them consisted of less severe cases. The authors conclude there is no unbiased evidence of the effect of surgery for bronchiectasias.
