Chronic Ulcer in the Leg

Chronic ulcer in the leg. Chronic ulcer in the distal leg. The appearance suggests a venous leg ulcer: it is located in the distal leg and the surrounding skin is pigmented, glistening and hardened. The ulcer is reddened and moist, with light-coloured fibrin coating. Leg ulcers in the elderly are, however, often mixed, i.e. also the arterial circulation is deteriorated. Prevention of oedema is crucial in the treatment. Investigations for vascular surgery are often needed. Ambulatory pinch grafting of the skin would be suitable for this type of ulcer.
