Prostatic hyperplasia (transverse ultrasonographic picture).Urinary retention in an elderly man was caused by a significantly enlarged prostate. The height of the prostate measures 4.8 cm and the width 5.5 cm. The length (in a longitudinal picture) measures 4.9 cm. The estimated prostatic size is 0.6 × 4.8 × 5.5 × 4.9 = 77 ml and the weight is about the same in grams.
