Hypertensive retinopathy. Large, deep haemorrhages, retinal microinfarctions, and hard (lipid) exudates. Superior temporal venous occlusion above and at the macula. Central vision is impaired (left eye). The most important risk factor is elevated blood pressure, which causes obstruction of venous flow at the arteriovenous crossing where the artery compresses the vein and causes its occlusion.
