Erythema induratum at the back side of the leg. Erythema induratum is a vasculitis that develops in the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the calf in female patients. The diffuse palpable mass is tender and rarely develops an ulcer. The patients are often overweight. Known as erythema induratum Bazin, this type of change has also been associated with tuberculous aetiology. The lesion heals temporarily well with oral glucocorticoid medication, but recurs easily. Systemic potassium iodide may suppress the disease, but requires monitoring of thyroid function.
