A 1.5-year-old boy had a history of one earlier wheezing episode associated with a respiratory infection. This time symptoms of infection had started 2 days before consultation, and dyspnea developed during the night. In the morning marked intercostal retraction, increased respiratory rate (58/min) and both inspiratory and expiratory rales were observed. The obstruction was classified as severe Management of Acute Expiratory Airflow Obstruction and Exacerbation of Asthma in Children, and the child received inhaled salbutamol and peroral prednisolone 2 mg/kg. After salbutamol inhalation the symptoms improved. The inhalation was repeated twice during the same day. The next day the symptoms had almost disappeared.
