Erysipelas of the auricle.Facial erysipelas often starts in the auricle. The causative agent is usually group A (sometimes group C or G) betahaemolytic streptococcus. The auricle and later the cheek becomes swollen, hot and painful. Fever and general feeling of illness may be misleadingly absent in facial erysipelas.
