Lichen Planus in the Hair Follicles on the Scalp

Lichen planus in the hair follicles on the scalp. Lichen planus in the hair follicles, i.e. lichen planopilaris, belongs to the scarring alopecias. There is erythema around the hair follicles and the condition results in scarring of the scalp and permanent hairless patch. In the scarred skin, no normal skin structures like follicular orifices are visible contrary to e.g. alopecia areata.
