Pterygium. A pterygium is a benign change in which the conjunctiva grows slowly and in a triangular shape over the limbus onto the cornea. The growth usually takes place slowly. In the early stage, the change may cause xerophthalmia. If the pterygium affects vision while growing, it should be treated surgically; recurrence is possible, however.
