Keloid

Keloid. When considering the removal of a (innocent) naevus, check whether the patient is prone to develop hypertrophic scars or keloids. The shoulder region, sternum area and earlobes in particular often produce unpleasant surprises. Treatment of keloids is unrewarding. Refer the patient to a dermatologist for cryotherapy. It is often effective and always the most inexpensive treatment for keloids. Under no circumstances should you try to remove the keloid with a direct excision - you will get a larger keloid in its place.
