Piezogenic Papules in the Heel

Piezogenic papules in the heel. Piezogenic papules (or fat hernias) in the heel are quite common and harmless lesions. The piezo phenomenon is associated with the variation of pressure: the light-coloured nodules are formed when subcutaneous fat is bulging between the connective tissue strands of the dermis due to pressure on the heel. If a single nodule is very painful it may be excised, but the deeper layers of the surgical wound must be carefully closed.
