A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 included 10 studies with a total of 5 248 subjects. Meta-analysis found no difference in the risk of wound infection, other wound complications, febrile morbidity or endometritis in women with caesarean section who had wound drains compared with those who did not. No differences in outcomes were found between subcutaneous drainage and subcutaneous suturing in the 3 studies that made this comparison.
