Erysipelas of the leg.Erysipelas should be treated, without delay, with parenteral antimicrobial therapy at a hospital ward. If the disease recurs twice (or permanent oedema remain in the lower limb already earlier), permanent penicillin prophylaxis should be seriously considered. Its too low level of use has caused many permanent and troublesome cases of lower limb oedema resulting from damaged lymph circulation. Also the interdigital spaces of the toes must be well taken care of.
