A Cochrane review [Abstract] 1 included 4 studies with a total of 204 subjects. Administration of metoclopramide did not statistically significantly decrease the unsuccess rate of transpyloric migration of the enteral feeding tube (OR 0.82, 95% CI 0.61 to 1.10) compared to control (placebo or no intervention). Analysing according to the dosage, neither metoclopramide 10 mg (RR 0.82, 95% CI 0.60 to 1.11) nor 20 mg (RR 0.62, 95% CI 0.15 to 2.62) were effective in facilitating transpyloric intubation.
Comment: The quality of evidence is downgraded by study quality (unclear allocation concealment and lack of blinding), and by imprecise results (few patients and wide confidence intervals).
