Urticarial vasculitis. The wheal resembles a quite ordinary urticarial hive but if it remains at the same place for more than 24 hours it may be caused by urticarial vasculitis. A bruise may remain in the skin as the wheal has disappeared. Urticarial vasculitis is an autoimmune disease that may be idiopathic or it may be associated with connective tissue diseases or drugs. Besides antihistamines, dapsone or immunosuppressive agents may be required for treatment.
