Marking the Needle Insertion Site

After determining level of effusion by percussion, mark needle insertion site, which is located 1 intercostal space below level of effusion, at upper portion of rib, and midway between posterior axillary line and paraspinal muscles, by indenting skin firmly with fingernail or pen cap.
