Alternative technique. Insert needle near junction of dorsal and lateral surfaces of digit, injecting anesthetic as needle tip is withdrawn along lateral surface back to insertion site. Then redirect needle tip along dorsum of digit, and administer anesthetic as needle is withdrawn. Repeat this technique for volar and lateral surfaces of digit.
