Population: Adults without diagnosis or symptoms of atrial fibrillation.
Organization
Screening Recommendation
Current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening for atrial fibrillation.
Practice Pearls
Several technologies have been proposed for screening for AF including electrocardiograms (ECGs), automated blood pressure (BP) cuffs or pulse oximeters, and consumer-oriented devices such as smartwatches and smartphone apps.
Clinicians should use their clinical judgment regarding whether to screen and how to screen for AF. It is important to note that the USPSTF considers palpation of the pulse to be part of routine or usual care.
