Other Nitrogen Mustards.
Chlorambucil in combination with obinutuzumab has been approved for the treatment of patients with previously untreated chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Bendamustine is approved for treatment of CLL and indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Melphalan is a nitrogen mustard attached to the amino acid phenylalanine. Plasma cells appear to have a higher tendency to absorb melphalan due its amino acid moiety, which is required for immunoglobulin synthesis. Melphalan is used mainly for the treatment of plasma cell disorders and in conditioning regimens prior to autologous stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma. Pulmonary infiltrates and fibrosis have been reported in patients after administration of melphalan.
