- Sample must be iced and sent to lab immediately.
- ACTH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. Increased levels of ACTH lead to the production of androgens and cortisol.
- Used to assess signs and symptoms of adrenocortical dysfunction.
- Useful in determining the cause of hypercortisolism.
NI Elevated levels suggest Addison's disease or Cushing's disease; decreased levels suggest Cushing's syndrome, adrenal tumor, and pituitary insufficiency.
