Care of Dentures

Wear gloves.
If client cannot remove own dentures, grasp upper plate at the front teeth and move up and down gently to release suction.
Lift the lower plate up one side at a time.
Use extreme care not to damage dentures while cleaning.
Use tepid, not hot, water to clean.
Avoid soaking for long periods of time.
Inspect for sharp edges.
Do oral cavity assessment.
Replace moistened dentures in client’s mouth.
Use appropriately labeled container for storage when dentures are to remain out of client’s mouth.
