Caring for an Artificial Eye

With gloved hand, pull lower eyelid down over the infraorbital bone and exert pressure below the eyelid.
Pressure will make the eye prosthesis pop out.
Handle eye prosthesis carefully.
Using aseptic technique, cleanse socket with saline-moistened gauze, stroking from inner to outer canthus.
Wash the prosthesis in warm normal saline.
To reinsert, gently pull the client’s lower lid down, raise the upper lid if necessary, slip the saline-moistened eye prosthesis gently into the socket, and release the lids.
