The Final Tests are composed of 150 content-integrated, multiple-choice questions, most with four answer options. One of the answers is most complete and therefore the best choice. The other three answers (distractors) are not always wrong but are usually not as complete or as important as the best answer. In addition, 31 alternate item format questions have been added to these tests, where you will be asked to select all that apply from 5 to 6 options, place in order of priority/sequence, fill in the blank, use the chart information, and locate the area/spot on the diagram.

Using a nursing process framework, the questions on the Final Tests reflect nursing situations that involve different clinical areas and diagnoses. As on the NCLEX-RN^®, the number of questions for each content area varies. The percentage distribution of items in these tests related to client needs follows the NCLEX-RN^® blueprint (see Table 1-1. Description of NCLEX[®] Question Formats in Chapter 1. Orientation and Pre-Tests, Orientation and Pre-Test, for percentages).

Based on the blueprint for the Test Plan for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN^®) published by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc., the Final Tests assess your knowledge, skills, and abilities in the four broad areas of client needs: Safe, Effective Care Environment (SECE), Physiological Integrity (PhI), Psychosocial Integrity (PsI), and Health Promotion and Maintenance (HPM); and six client subneeds (Management of Care, Safety and Infection Control, Basic Care and Comfort, Physiological Adaptation, Reduction of Risk Potential, and Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies). Each question in the Final Tests has been classified according to the above categories and according to clinical area, as well as cognitive level and integrated process.
