This Pre-test section is unique—it provides you with a special roadmap to your examination success with 150 challenging assessment questions divided into two 75-item examinations.

The Pre-test 1 is an initial assessment tool intended to help you to assess your strengths and weaknesses in your ability to apply the material you have learned in specific clinical areas to any nursing situation. By taking the Pre-test, you can focus your subsequent review of content, based on your own analysis of your results.

We suggest that you take the Pre-test 1 before you read any of the content units in this resource. After taking the Pre-test 1, you should:

1. Score your answers.
2. Take another look at the questions where your answer was wrong.
3. Identify the clinical areas where you need further review (e.g., Child Health, Behavioral and Emotional, Adult Health, Geriatrics, Maternity/Newborn).
4. Read specific content chapters (Chapter 4. Health Promotion and Maintenance, Chapter 5. Health Promotion and Maintenance, Chapter 6. Physiological Integrity, Chapter 7. Physiological Integrity, and Chapter 10. Psychosocial Integrity).
5. Then test yourself again on the Pre-test 2.

This time, take all the questions by one clinical area at a time (starting with the one you missed the most).
If you are repeating the NCLEX-RN^®, also use the Pre-test 1 and 2 a second time but take questions by client needs/subneeds where you scored below the passing standard and/or near the passing standard.
