Autologous blood recovery systems are used in surgical procedures to salvage red blood cells (RBCs) when theres rapid bleeding or high-volume blood loss. Shed blood is collected and stored in a reservoir, where waste is separated from the healthy RBCs. The waste collects into a separate bag; healthy RBCs are then returned to the patient. This process can be performed in 3 to 7 minutes.
