• Always observe standard precautions.
• Before physical contact, perform a general survey.
• Evaluate all symptoms using the OPQRST approach.
• If Pt has an obvious problem, start at that point.
• Let Pt know your findings, and use this time to teach.
• Leave sensitive or painful areas until end of exam.
