Dose Range/Adult Daily Dose
- Range: 20250 mg/d
Start: 10 mg po 2 × daily, ↑ until psychotic symptom improvement. Acute agitation in Bipolar I or schizophrenia patient: 10 mg in a single-use inhaler. Only 1 dose in 24 h. Only administered by enrolled health care facilities.
Use/Common Side Effects (CSE)
- Use: Schizophrenia (second line Rx); Adasuve Inhalant: Acute agitation in Bipolar I and schizophrenic adults. Off label: Other psychotic disorders, bipolar.
CSE: Drowsiness, orthostatic hypotension, ataxia, constipation, nausea, blurred vision. Adasuve Inhalation: CSE: Unpleasant taste, sedation, throat irritation; Black box warning: BRONCHOSPASM. Screen for contraindications: asthma, COPD, wheezing.
Geriatric & Dose Considerations
- Evaluate/monitor for confusion, orthostatic hypotension, sedation, ↓ dose; at risk for falls; ↑mortality in elderly with dementia-related psychosis
