5-Fluorouracil (Continuous Infusion)1,149,150- Prechemo: CBC, Chem, LFTs, and CEA. Central line placement. Oral phenothiazine or 5-HT3; or5-HT3 and dexamethasone 10–20 mg. Mild to moderately emetogenic.
- Fluorouracil 2600 mg/m2: IV over 24 hours weekly for 4 weeks.
OR
- Fluorouracil 1000 mg/m2/day: IV continuous infusion on days 1–4.
- Side effects: Myelosuppression dose related, dose-limiting. Nausea and vomiting. Mucositis and diarrhea can be severe and dose-limiting. Alopecia. Hyperpigmentation, photosensitivity, and nail changes. Hand-foot syndrome can be dose-limiting. Photophobia, increased lacrimation, conjunctivitis, and blurred vision.
- Chair time: 1 hour weekly for 4 weeks. Repeat every 21–28 days.
