You may experience increased vaginal discharge that is yellow-green or watery gray in color. It may have a foul, “fishy” odor. You may also have vaginal itching or irritation, burning during urination, discomfort during sexual intercourse, spotting or bleeding during or after sexual intercourse, or abdominal discomfort.

Trichomoniasis is considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

Trichomonas vaginalis is acquired by having sex with someone who has the infection.

1. Use condom when having intercourse.
2. Limit the number of sexual partners.
3. Screen new sexual partners.
4. Do not have sex if your sexual partner has abnormal discharge or burning with urination.

1. Do not have sexual activity until you and your partner have both completed medications. There are no limitations in other physical activity.
2. Diet:
   1. Do not drink alcohol during the use of medication and for 3 days after taking the last dose of your medicine. Alcohol use while taking this medication may result in nausea, vomiting, and severe upset stomach.
   2. You may have a metallic taste from the medicine that may slightly alter the taste of food temporarily.
   3. No other limitations in diet are required.

Medications:

There are two medications that are used to treat the trichomoniasis infection: Metronidazole (Flagyl) OR tinidazole (Tindamax).
