The evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) requires consideration of age, menstrual status of the patient, as well as characterization of the bleeding, specifically the onset, duration, frequency, amount, pattern, and associated symptoms. It is also important to consider bleeding sources outside of the genital tract, including the urinary and gastrointestinal tracts, which patients may perceive as coming from the vagina.
