Infantile seborrheic dermatitis also called cradle cap (when located on scalp (Fig. 2.16) in neonates and infants) is an eczematous eruption that develops in areas of high sebaceous gland activity.
Pink patches and plaques with greasy yellow scale classically occurring on the scalp, face (especially eyebrows and nasolabial folds), ears (posterior and ear canals), and skin folds (neck, axillae, groin, arm, and thigh folds).
Tends to resolve around 3 to 4 months of age when levels of hormones subside.
