Pathophys and Cause

Cause:UV or sun at 290-320 nm (UVB), or 320-340 nm (UVA II) wavelength; over 100 drugs can increase sensitivity (Med Let 1995;37:35)

Complications

Photoaging, actinic damage including keratoses, squamous cell and basal cell cancer, melanomas; r/o polymorphous light eruption (Polymorphous Light Eruption)

Treatment

Rx:Prevent w sunscreen SPF >30, eg, Uval, Solbar, benzones (Med Let 1993;35:54)

Tatoo removal best by Q-switch lasers at wavelength of pigments (Med Let 2003;45:95)
