Short-term treatment of obesity
Tenuate
- 25 mg PO tid before meals and in midevening
Tenuate Dospan
- 75 mg PO qd in midmorning
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

- Avoid using in combination with other anorectic agents, including prescribed drugs, OTC preparations, and herbal products
- Therapy may increased risk of pulmonary hypertension, in such cases immediately discontinued the therapy and monitor the patient
- Valvular heart disease has been often reported when therapy is given with other concomitant medication. Valvulopathy may occur when medication is taken as monotherapy
- Consider baseline cardiac evaluation to detect preexisting valvular heart diseases or pulmonary hypertension prior to initiation of therapy
- To avoid unwarranted exposure and risks, treatment should be continued only if the patient has satisfactory weight loss within the first 4 weeks of treatment, and if tolerance develops, the recommended dose should not be exceeded in an attempt to increase the effect; rather, the drug should be discontinued
- Therapy may impair the ability of the patient to engage in hazardous activities such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle; thus patient should be cautioned accordingly
- Prolonged use of therapy may induce dependence with withdrawal syndrome. Hallucinations may occur in rare cases, and several cases of toxic psychosis have been reported following the excessive use of the drug. If psychosis occurs, discontinue the treatment
