Adult Dosing
Seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria
- 5-10 mg PO daily
- Max: 10 mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
Seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, chronic urticaria
Child 6 month-2 yrs
- 2.5 mg (1/2 tsp) PO daily. In children >12 month, upto 5 mg (1/2 tsp bid) may be given
Child 2-5 yrs
- Start 2.5 (1/2 tsp) - 5 mg (1tsp) PO daily. 5 mg dose may be given divided bid
- Max: 5 mg/day
Child 6-11 yrs
- 5-10 mg (1-2 tsp) PO daily

- Cetirizine may cause drowsiness and/or sedation. Occurence of somnolence has also been reported. This effect may be enhanced with alcohol, sedatives, and other CNS depressants. Advise patients not to engage in activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination, such as driving a car or operating machinery
- Assess patient for allergy symptoms (eg, hives, itching, nasal congestion, rhinitis etc) before starting therapy, and periodically throughout therapy
- Safety and efficacy is not established in children younger than 6 months of age

Pregnancy Category:B
Breastfeeding: Small occasional doses of cetirizine are acceptable during breastfeeding. Larger doses or more prolonged use may cause drowsiness and or interfere with lactation, particularly when used in combination with a sympathomimetic or before lactation is well established.
