How should a chest tube be removed?

  1. Cut the stitch
  2. Ask the patient to exhale or inhale maximally
  3. Rapidly remove the tube (split second) and at same time, place petroleum jelly gauze covered by 4 × 4's and then tape
  4. Obtain a CXR
