Bruise.
myocardial c.A cardiac contusion from blunt or penetrating trauma to the chest. It is an occasional cause of cardiac arrhythmia and a rare cause of rupture of the heart.
pulmonary c.A contusion to the lung, caused by chest trauma. Because of damage to the capillaries, blood and other fluids accumulate in the lung tissue, which interferes with gas exchange and may lead to hypoxia. SYN: lung contusion.
