If the patient has an open wound in the palm or base of a finger, every superficial and deep flexor tendon must be examined separately. The superficial flexor tendon flexes the finger at the PIP joint, and the deep flexor tendon at the DIP joint. At first fix the proximal phalanx of each finger against a surface, and ask the patient to flex the finger. Then fix the middle phalanx against a surface so that the PIP joint remains extended and ask the patient to flex the finger. In this video all tendons are intact.
