Use/Common Side Effects (CSE)

• Use: Short-term insomnia management (<4 wk)
  CSE: Drowsiness, confusion, dizziness, paradoxical excitation, blurred vision, constipation

Geriatric & Dose Considerations

• Initial dose↓: 15 mg po initially hs; hepatic disease; warn patient and family about ↑ risk for falls and requires assessment for falls and fall prevention

Assessment Cautions

• Contraindicated: CNS depression, narrow-angle glaucoma, pregnancy, lactation.
  Caution: Hepatic disease, hx suicide attempts, avoid alcohol (see FDA warning)
