Adult Dosing
Mild-moderate Alzheimers disease
- 5-10 mg PO qhs
- Start: 5 mg PO qhs x4-6 wk, then if needed increase to 10 mg PO qhs
Moderate to Severe Alzheimers Disease
- 10-23 mg PO qhs
- Start: 10 mg PO qhs x3 months, then if needed increase to 23 mg PO qhs
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatrics have not been established

- This drug is associated with exaggeration of succinylcholine type muscle relaxation during anesthesia
- Patients with and without known underlying cardiac conduction abnormalities are prone to manifestation such as bradycardia or heart block
- Syncopal episodes have occurred in association with use of this drug
- Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting have occurred in association with therapy. Closely observe patients during initiation of treatment and after increments in dosage
- Closely monitor patients for symptoms of active or occult GI bleeding, especially those at increased risk for developing ulcers
- Dose of 23 mg PO qd is associated with weight loss
- Cholinomimetics are associated with bladder outflow obstructions, generalized convulsions
- Prescribe cholinesterase inhibitors with utmost care in patients having history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease

- Defects in cardiac conduction
- Asthma
- COPD
- GI ulcer
- Weight <55 kg
