Adult Dosing
Mild to moderate pain in adults
- 200 mg PO q4-6 hrs PRN with food
Rheumatoid arthritis
- 400-600 mg PO tid-qid with food
- Max: 3200 mg/day
- Use lowest effective dose, shortest effective treatment duration
Osteoarthritis
- 400-600 mg PO tid-qid with food
- Max: 3200 mg/day
- Use lowest effective dose, shortest effective treatment duration
Pediatric Dosing

- Fatal/serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke may occur with the therapy; use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease [US Black Box Warning]
- Therapy is contraindicated for the treatment of peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery [US Black Box Warning]
- Therapy may cause fatal and serious gastrointestinal adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of stomach or intestines. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events [US Black Box Warning]
- Therapy can lead to onset of new hypertension or worsening of pre-existing hypertension. Therefore fenoprofen should be used with caution in patients with hypertension. Monitor closely during the initiation and throughout the course of therapy
- Use with caution in patients with fluid retention, compromised cardiac function or heart failure as therapy may cause fluid retention and edema
- Long term use may result in renal papillary necrosis, renal toxicity and other renal injury
- Anaphylactoid reactions may occur in patients without known prior exposure to therapy. Do not give in patients with aspirin triad
- Serious/fatal skin adverse events such as exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) may occur with the therapy. Suspend therapy immediately in such conditions
- Therapy may cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus in the fetus when administered starting at 30-weeks gestation. Therefore use is contraindicated in pregnant woman
- Therapy is associated with visual disturbances. Therefore periodically perform eye examinations during the therapy
- Caution should be exercised by patients whose activities require alertness if they experience CNS side effects while taking fenoprofen
- Periodically perform tests of auditory function during prolonged therapy
- Therapy may cause elevations of ALT or AST. Fatal/severe hepatic reactions, including jaundice and fatal fulminant hepatitis, liver necrosis and hepatic failure have also been reported with the therapy
- Perform hemoglobin or hematocrit check as therapy may cause anemia
- Severe to fatal bronchospasm may occur in patients with aspirin-sensitive asthma

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown. Because there is little published experience with fenoprofen during breastfeeding, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
